Eastasiasoft has officially announced that they are partnering with Idea Factory to bring the anime-style dungeon RPG Death end re;Quest Code Z to the Nintendo Switch as an Asian English edition in Summer 2026.
This is a massive win for Switch owners, especially after the Western release for the console was previously cancelled due to compliance hurdles. Now, English-speaking players can finally experience the portable version of this gruesome roguelike spin-off.
A New Hero in a Familiar, Twisted World
Set in a parallel universe known as World DE-1.5, Code Z introduces a fresh protagonist, Sayaka Hiwatari. While the world may look like a peaceful copy of Earth from the 2000s, a new crisis has plunged it into chaos. Sayaka must navigate the terrifying Strain Area to rescue her friends, but there’s a catch—she’s surrounded by people who look exactly like the legendary heroes of the previous games.
Key Gameplay Features
Unlike the traditional turn-based combat of the main series, Code Z shifts gears into a roguelike dungeon crawler (think Mystery Dungeon but with a dark, psychological horror twist).
- Grid-Based Exploration: Navigate 3D dungeons where every step counts. When you move, the enemies move.
- The “Death End” Mechanic: True to the series’ roots, death is not just a failure—it’s a resource. Witnessing gruesome “Death Ends” rewards you with Skill Points to bolster Sayaka’s abilities for her next run.
- Sanity Meter: Managing your mental health is just as important as your HP. If your sanity drops too low, Sayaka will begin to hallucinate, and the world becomes a much deadlier place.
- Gory Narrative: With a story overseen by the “diabolically twisted” Makoto Kodouin, expect visceral writing and haunting CG art by Kei Nanameda.
