Check In, If You Dare: Portuguese Developer Camel 101 Unveils Retro Horror ‘Dead Stop – No Vacancy’ Coming to Steam This August

Indie horror fans, mark your calendars! Portuguese development studio Camel 101 has officially announced its latest project: Dead Stop – No Vacancy, set to launch on PC via Steam on August 13, 2026.

If you’re a fan of atmospheric storytelling, vintage VHS vibes, and classic 1980s slasher lore, this short, standalone first-person horror experience is designed to keep you on the edge of your seat.

What is Dead Stop – No Vacancy?

Dead Stop – No Vacancy serves as the chilling debut entry in Dead Stop, a brand-new anthology series of short, bite-sized horror titles inspired by classic horror tropes and eerie, forgotten locations.

In this first episode, players step into the worn boots of Nancy, a sharp, hard-nosed investigative reporter tracking down an arson story in the small town of Crestfall. Things take a dark turn when Nancy loses GPS signal on a desolate back road and is forced to stop for the night at the isolated Paradise Motel.

What seems like a simple overnight stay quickly unravels into a terrifying mystery. With no road signs, no signal, and eerie occurrences hidden behind every door, Nancy soon discovers that getting a room at the Paradise Motel might be the worst mistake of her life.

    Key Game Features:

    • Retro 80s Slasher Aesthetic: Immersive visual style paying homage to classic VHS horror and retro survival games.
    • Environmental Storytelling & Puzzles: Explore creepy rooms, uncover hidden secrets, and solve mechanical contraptions tied directly to the motel’s dark history.
    • Pure Psychological Tension: Experience an atmospheric, exploration-driven horror setup that trades cheap jump scares for slow-burning dread and rich sound design.
    • Focused & Lean Gameplay: A tight, complete narrative experience—no filler, no unnecessary padding.

    Mark Your Calendars

Whether you’re a veteran of retro survival horror or just looking for a compact, pulse-pounding thriller to beat in an evening, Dead Stop – No Vacancy promises a delightfully grim getaway.

  • When Perspective Defines Reality: Veteran Developers Unveil Neon-Noir Mystery ‘The Eventide’

When Perspective Defines Reality: Veteran Developers Unveil Neon-Noir Mystery ‘The Eventide’

If you’re a fan of rich, narrative-driven mysteries, atmospheric worlds, and deep detective mechanics, put this on your radar immediately. Studio Reset, a newly formed independent game development studio created by industry veterans Kaelin Lavallee, Kris Schoneberg, and Francis Lacuna, has officially revealed its debut title: The Eventide.

Currently in early development for PC via Steam, The Eventide is a single-player, supernatural mystery adventure set in a stylised, neon-noir Canadian cityscape. Drawing on the team’s impressive background—with experience spanning acclaimed studios like BioWare, Hinterland, Inflexion Games, and Timbre Games—Studio Reset is setting out to reinvent how we approach virtual detective work.

    Welcome to The Eventide Agency

In The Eventide, players take on the role of the unseen hand orchestrating operations at The Eventide Agency—a covert organisation dedicated to monitoring, studying, and intervening in otherworldly incidents that the public never notices.

Adjacent planes of existence are bleeding into the city. From rain-slicked alleys and dusty archives to eerie, defunct radio stations and haunted apartment blocks, a growing backlog of unexplained cases needs solving. But this isn’t your average “find the glowing object” detective game. In The Eventide, the most critical choice you make happens before you even set foot at the crime scene.

    The Twist: “Parallax Deduction”

What makes The Eventide stand out in the crowded mystery genre is its core mechanic: Parallax Deduction.

Every investigation begins with a crucial choice: Which two agents should be sent to the scene?

Every agent in your evolving roster sees the world differently—and that perspective alters reality. The clues you gather, the conversations you trigger, and the details you notice depend entirely on who you assign:

    • Evelyn “Eve” Atwood (The Cryptozoologist): Methodical and grounded, Eve analyses scenes through science, biology, and physical evidence.
    • Sam “Brass” Hingle (The Former Detective): Pragmatic and sharp, Brass specialises in reading people, deciphering motives, and catching human contradictions.
    • Kira (The [REDACTED]): Quiet and sensitive, Kira can perceive latent psychic and emotional energies lingering in a room.

Other agents bring arcane knowledge, advanced technical gear, or the ability to peer directly into ethereal planes. Because no two agents see a crime scene through the same lens, solving a case isn’t about trial-and-error guesswork—it’s about matching perspectives to synthesise the full picture.

“We see the world as we need to; not as it is,” explains Kaelin Lavallee, Producer and Creative Director at Studio Reset. “With The Eventide, we wanted to build a mystery game where solving a case is not just about finding clues. It is about experiencing the cases through the characters’ perspective to understand what those clues mean.”

Paperwork, Redacted Truths, and Branching Logic

Once your field agents collect their evidence, it’s up to you to piece the fragments together back at the office. Using a word-based, mad-lib-style deduction system, you’ll fill in the missing gaps of redacted case reports.

Be careful, though: evidence can often be interpreted in more than one way. Different conclusions can lead to different truths, opening up new cases, locations, and overarching conspiracy threads across a non-linear campaign structure.

Built on Experience and Unreal Engine 5

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, The Eventide combines fixed-camera 3D exploration with mature narrative themes including loss, trauma, and folklore. The game promises a unique blend of The X-Files paranormal investigation, The Case of the Golden Idol styled deduction puzzles, and a striking neon-noir aesthetic.

With a veteran development team behind the wheel, The Eventide is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing indie projects on the horizon.

    How to Stay Updated

The Eventide is currently in early development for PC. You can support Studio Reset by heading over to Steam today to wishlist the game and check out the debut announcement teaser trailer!

  • ‘Terra Nil’ Designer’s Next Big Strategy Hit: ‘Combolands’ Set to Launch This August

‘Terra Nil’ Designer’s Next Big Strategy Hit: ‘Combolands’ Set to Launch This August

If you’re a fan of fast-paced strategy, bite-sized deckbuilders, and smart city-building games, mark your calendars: Crux Games has officially announced that Combolands: Roguelike Citybuilder will launch on PC via Steam on August 24, 2026.

Crux Games is an independent two-person studio based in South Africa, formed by Skye Scott and Sam Alfred—the celebrated lead designer behind the BAFTA-nominated indie hit Terra Nil. Created with support from publisher Landfall (Content Warning, HASTE, Peak), Combolands expands on the concepts of their popular Itch.io prototype, Tiny Towns, which racked up over 100,000 views.

Here is everything you need to know about one of this summer’s most promising indie titles.

    What is Combolands?

Combolands blends the tactical spatial placement of citybuilders with the high replayability and synergy-chasing loops of roguelike deckbuilders.

Instead of sitting through hours-long city management simulations, players build sprawling, interconnected metropolises in short, punchy 30-minute sessions. Every run takes place on procedurally generated islands, ensuring that no two maps—or strategy runs—are ever identical.

    Key Game Features & Mechanics

    • Stack Cascading Combos: In Combolands, building placement matters. Players place structures to trigger chain reactions, score massive bonuses, and unlock game-breaking synergies that maximise city growth.
