Paint the Town Neon: Retroware and Zenovia Interactive’s Neon Inferno Blazes Into Steam’s Cyberpunk Fest Today!

Cyberpunk lovers and arcade action fans, unite! Steam’s highly anticipated Cyberpunk Fest has officially kicked off today at 10 a.m. PDT, delivering a week-long celebration of neon-drenched dystopias, futuristic gear, and gritty urban sprawl. Running through August 10, the event spotlights some of the finest sci-fi and dystopian titles in gaming—and leading the charge is the spectacularly stylish 2D run-’n-gun shooter, Neon Inferno!

Published by Retroware and developed by NYC-based indie powerhouses Zenovia Interactive (the creators behind Steel Assault), Neon Inferno brings a fresh, adrenaline-fueled spin to classic arcade action. If you’ve been itching for a game that seamlessly blends high-octane nostalgia with slick modern mechanics, this title demands a spot on your Steam wishlist right now.

    What Is Neon Inferno?

Set in a sprawling, war-torn New York City in the year 2055, Neon Inferno places you right in the crossfire of a brutal turf war. Criminal syndicates and a hopelessly corrupt NYPD fight for control of the metropolis. Playing as deadly assassins Angelo Morano or Mariana Vitti, you serve as the ultimate secret weapon for a fledgling crime family fighting for supremacy.

Whether you’re battling through the battle-torn slums of the Bronx or infiltrating the fortified neon gardens of Inner Manhattan, every level delivers relentless, high-stakes action.

Here is what makes Neon Inferno stand out from the crowd:

    • Foreground & Background Combat: Blending classic side-scrollers like Contra with gallery shooters like Wild Guns, Neon Inferno lets you target enemies in both the foreground and the background simultaneously.
    • Bullet Time & Projectile Parrying: Need to turn the tide in a fraction of a second? Slash incoming green enemy fire with your blade, trigger “Bullet Time,” and deflect deadly projectiles right back into enemy ranks across both layers of the battlefield.
    • Gorgeous 32-Bit Pixel Art: Dazzling neon signs, rain-slicked pavement, and hyper-detailed synth-fueled retro visuals create a breathtaking sci-fi atmosphere backed by an evocative cyberpunk soundtrack.
    • Two-Player Co-Op & Arcade Modes: Grab a friend for double the firepower, or test your ultimate grit in a classic 1-credit-clear Arcade Mode challenge.

Gear Up for Steam’s Cyberpunk Fest

Steam’s Cyberpunk Fest is the premier destination to discover discounts, demos, and showcases featuring advanced technology, cybernetic upgrades, and moody dystopian worlds.

With Neon Inferno bringing its razor-sharp retro aesthetics and intense action to the festival floor, there’s never been a better time to dive into the genre.

    What is Mechaconda?

In Mechaconda, players pilot a high-tech robotic combat serpent on an explosive mission to destroy the evil forces of Dr. EVIL.

    • High Risk vs. High Reward: The longer your mechanical snake grows, the more firepower you unleash. However, a larger body also makes you a significantly bigger target for intense enemy projectiles and lethal environmental traps!
    • Diverse Playstyles: With over 10+ unlockable serpent heads and modular upgrades, no two runs feel the same. Build a fast, nimble strike unit or transform into a massive, heavily armoured walking fortress.

Modes for Every Type of Gamer

Whether you want a casual campaign or a punishing test of twitch reflexes, Mechaconda packs three distinct game modes right out of the box:

  • One Game, Four Realities: How Stardock’s ‘Galactic Civilisations IV: Federations & Empires’ Completely Rewrites 4X Strategy

One Game, Four Realities: How Stardock’s ‘Galactic Civilisations IV: Federations & Empires’ Completely Rewrites 4X Strategy

Strategy gamers, it’s time to rethink everything you know about ruling the galaxy.

Stardock has officially released Galactic Civilizations IV: Federations & Empires, a game-changing expansion that completely overhauls how players build, manage, and expand their interstellar empires.

If you’ve played traditional 4X strategy titles—or even the base Galactic Civilizations IV—you’re likely used to a single, linear government progression track. You earn points, unlock traits, and push your empire down a familiar path.

Federations & Empires throws that old model out the window.

    A Total Rebuild of Governance

Instead of giving players a one-size-fits-all approach to leadership, the new expansion replaces the original government track with four completely distinct forms of government.

This isn’t just a cosmetic re-skin or a set of minor statistical buffs. Stardock rebuilt the entire Government screen from the ground up for each style of leadership. Choosing your government now means stepping into a custom-tailored gameplay experience defined by:

    1. Unique Economic & Political Resources: Every government type relies on its own distinct resource pool, changing how you balance your economy and political power.
    2. Dedicated Core Loops: How you handle internal policy, empire expansion, and crisis management changes drastically depending on your chosen system.
    3. Exclusive Free Hero Ships: Each government form awards a specialised hero ship to help enforce your rule and project power across the stars.

    Four Governments, Four Different Games

By giving each political system its own unique mechanics and progression systems, Federations & Empires ensures that switching governments fundamentally alters how the game feels. Picking a Democracy will demand entirely different strategic decisions than running an Autocracy or a Feudal Empire.

In essence, picking your form of government is no longer just a minor setup choice—it turns Galactic Civilizations IV into what feels like four entirely different strategy games in one.

    The Takeaway for Strategy Fans

For long-time fans of the 4X genre, this expansion delivers much-needed replayability, tactical depth, and thematic immersion. Whether you prefer leading through diplomacy, military dominance, or complex political manoeuvres, Federations & Empires challenges you to master completely unique rules of engagement.

  • When Perspective Defines Reality: Veteran Developers Unveil Neon-Noir Mystery ‘The Eventide’

When Perspective Defines Reality: Veteran Developers Unveil Neon-Noir Mystery ‘The Eventide’

If you’re a fan of rich, narrative-driven mysteries, atmospheric worlds, and deep detective mechanics, put this on your radar immediately. Studio Reset, a newly formed independent game development studio created by industry veterans Kaelin Lavallee, Kris Schoneberg, and Francis Lacuna, has officially revealed its debut title: The Eventide.

Currently in early development for PC via Steam, The Eventide is a single-player, supernatural mystery adventure set in a stylised, neon-noir Canadian cityscape. Drawing on the team’s impressive background—with experience spanning acclaimed studios like BioWare, Hinterland, Inflexion Games, and Timbre Games—Studio Reset is setting out to reinvent how we approach virtual detective work.

    Welcome to The Eventide Agency

In The Eventide, players take on the role of the unseen hand orchestrating operations at The Eventide Agency—a covert organisation dedicated to monitoring, studying, and intervening in otherworldly incidents that the public never notices.

Adjacent planes of existence are bleeding into the city. From rain-slicked alleys and dusty archives to eerie, defunct radio stations and haunted apartment blocks, a growing backlog of unexplained cases needs solving. But this isn’t your average “find the glowing object” detective game. In The Eventide, the most critical choice you make happens before you even set foot at the crime scene.

    The Twist: “Parallax Deduction”

What makes The Eventide stand out in the crowded mystery genre is its core mechanic: Parallax Deduction.

Every investigation begins with a crucial choice: Which two agents should be sent to the scene?

Every agent in your evolving roster sees the world differently—and that perspective alters reality. The clues you gather, the conversations you trigger, and the details you notice depend entirely on who you assign:

    • Evelyn “Eve” Atwood (The Cryptozoologist): Methodical and grounded, Eve analyses scenes through science, biology, and physical evidence.
    • Sam “Brass” Hingle (The Former Detective): Pragmatic and sharp, Brass specialises in reading people, deciphering motives, and catching human contradictions.
    • Kira (The [REDACTED]): Quiet and sensitive, Kira can perceive latent psychic and emotional energies lingering in a room.

Other agents bring arcane knowledge, advanced technical gear, or the ability to peer directly into ethereal planes. Because no two agents see a crime scene through the same lens, solving a case isn’t about trial-and-error guesswork—it’s about matching perspectives to synthesise the full picture.

“We see the world as we need to; not as it is,” explains Kaelin Lavallee, Producer and Creative Director at Studio Reset. “With The Eventide, we wanted to build a mystery game where solving a case is not just about finding clues. It is about experiencing the cases through the characters’ perspective to understand what those clues mean.”

Paperwork, Redacted Truths, and Branching Logic

Once your field agents collect their evidence, it’s up to you to piece the fragments together back at the office. Using a word-based, mad-lib-style deduction system, you’ll fill in the missing gaps of redacted case reports.

Be careful, though: evidence can often be interpreted in more than one way. Different conclusions can lead to different truths, opening up new cases, locations, and overarching conspiracy threads across a non-linear campaign structure.

Built on Experience and Unreal Engine 5

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, The Eventide combines fixed-camera 3D exploration with mature narrative themes including loss, trauma, and folklore. The game promises a unique blend of The X-Files paranormal investigation, The Case of the Golden Idol styled deduction puzzles, and a striking neon-noir aesthetic.

With a veteran development team behind the wheel, The Eventide is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing indie projects on the horizon.

    How to Stay Updated

The Eventide is currently in early development for PC. You can support Studio Reset by heading over to Steam today to wishlist the game and check out the debut announcement teaser trailer!
