Echoes of Myth: Souls-Inspired Action Roguelite From Finnish Solo Dev Launches Today

The indie scene in Finland has a reputation for punching well above its weight, and today’s release looks to continue that tradition. Jukka Tykkyläinen, the solo developer behind Shifting Reality Interactive, has officially launched his debut commercial title, Echoes of Myth, on Steam.

Born from a love for the deliberate, high-stakes combat of Souls games and the deep build-crafting of Diablo, Echoes of Myth is a top-down action roguelite that demands both mechanical skill and strategic planning.

A Fractured World in Need of a Vessel

In Echoes of Myth, players take on the role of an unbound divine spirit. In a world where the gods have vanished and reality has fractured into drifting realms, you must possess mortal vessels to journey toward the world’s core.

The game’s structure is built around a “cyclical journey”—meaning death isn’t the end, but a chance to return to the Sanctuary. Here, you can spend Titan Essence gathered during your runs to unlock permanent upgrades, making each subsequent attempt a little more manageable.

    Key Features at Launch:

Deliberate Souls-lite Combat: Every enemy attack is clearly telegraphed, emphasising dodging, parrying, and positioning over mindless button-mashing.

Build Your Legend: With no rigid character classes, your playstyle is defined by the weapons, spells, and relics you find. You can lean into pure melee, devastating magic, or a hybrid of both.

Divine Relics & Infusions: Discover artefacts left behind by vanished deities that can fundamentally change how your abilities function.

Handcrafted Variety: Explore 7 distinct biomes, each populated by unique enemy families and guarded by 7 major bosses and 10 mini-bosses.

Endgame Challenge: For those who master the core journey, the Realm Distortions system offers high-level challenges to test the most optimised builds.

    From ARPG to Roguelite

Interestingly, the project didn’t start as a roguelite. Tykkyläinen originally envisioned a more traditional action RPG but pivoted during development.

“The roguelite structure, along with removing explicit character classes, ultimately allowed the game’s systems to click and form the foundation of the final design,” says the developer.

This shift allows for a more focused, “mid-core” experience where a full run takes roughly 45–60 minutes once mastered—perfect for players who want the intensity of a Souls encounter without the 80-hour time commitment.

    Availability

Echoes of Myth is available now on Steam for PC. To celebrate the launch, the game is currently running a 15% discount off its base price of £10.99 / $12.99.

If you’re still on the fence, a playable demo from the recent Steam Next Fest remains available on the store page for a limited time, giving you a chance to feel the weight of the combat before you dive into the fractured realms.

  • Lords of the Fallen II New Developer Video

Lords of the Fallen II New Developer Video

In a new 42-minute developer deep-dive titled “Lifting the Veil,” CI Games and Hexworks have finally pulled back the curtain on Lords of the Fallen II. This latest look at the alpha build showcases a sequel that isn’t just iterating—it’s evolving into a faster, weightier, and significantly bloodier beast.

Targeting a 2026 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the game aims to rectify the “floaty” criticisms of its predecessor while doubling down on the dual-realm mechanics that define the series.

    The “Bolder, Braver, Bloodier” Vision

Game Director James Lowe describes the sequel as a “decadent dance with death.” The focus this time around is on “planted” combat. Unlike the 2023 reboot, where characters sometimes felt like they were sliding across the terrain, the sequel emphasises weight and friction, ensuring every swing of a mace or thrust of a spear feels earned.

    Key Combat Evolutions:

    • The Scythe Weapon Class: A standout reveal, the Scythe is designed for “crowd dominance,” allowing players to chain attacks like water to manage large groups of enemies.
    • Seamless Hybrid Gameplay: You can now swap between melee, ranged, and spellcasting instantly. The clunky gear-grinding of the past is gone; casting a spell mid-combo is now second nature.
    • Dismemberment & Executions: A new graphic execution system isn’t just for show—it serves as a rhythmic “moment of glory” that rewards perfect parries and aggressive play.
    • The Umbral Lamp: The lamp now has its own dedicated button, making its integration into the core combat loop much tighter than the puzzle-heavy implementation of the first game.

    Build Diversity: Rivalling the Giants

In a bold move, Lowe compared the game’s philosophy to industry titans like Elden Ring. While he praised FromSoftware’s “commitment to a build,” he noted that Lords of the Fallen II encourages more on-the-fly experimentation.

“I have a few more drives to experiment… I want to try dual-wielding. How does that feel? I feel confident enough as a player to go, ‘I’m going to mess around with this for a few hours.’” — James Lowe, Game Director

The sequel achieves this through lighter stat requirements and a more accessible respec system, allowing players to pivot their playstyle without the “arduous process” found in other Soulslikes.

    New Threats and Veteran Challenges

The video showcased several nightmare-inducing bosses, including:

    • The Heartroot Warden: A metal-encased skeleton wielding a massive chain-wrapped greatsword.
    • Koydreth: A winged, teleporting knight striking from rune-etched mirrors.
    • Lingao the Souring Storm: A colossal dragon harnessing wind and lightning.

For those who found the original game too easy (or too hard), the sequel introduces Veteran Mode at launch. This mode updates enemy AI, reduces attack distances, and adds global cooldowns to enemies to ensure they stay aggressive and pressure the player constantly.

    Technical Specs & Release

    • Engine: Unreal Engine 5
    • Release Window: 2026
    • Platforms: PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Epic Games Store).
    • Co-op: Features full “shared-progression” co-op, meaning you and a friend can experience the entire campaign together without the “summoning” hurdles of traditional Soulslikes.

  • Command the Stars: Astro Protocol Launches Today on Steam!

Command the Stars: Astro Protocol Launches Today on Steam!

The wait is over for fans of deep strategy and tactical space combat. Null Vector Studios has officially released Astro Protocol on Steam!

If you love the depth of a 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) strategy game but don’t always have six hours to spare for a single session, this is the game you’ve been waiting for. Astro Protocol distils the grand strategy experience into intense, one-hour matches without sacrificing the complexity that makes the genre great.

    What is Astro Protocol?

Astro Protocol is a turn-based space strategy game set in a simulated star system. You take control of one of six unique factions, each vying for control of the “framework.” Whether you prefer the relentless expansion of a colonial power or the swarm tactics of a hive mind, the game challenges you to adapt your strategy to a galaxy that changes every time you play.

    Key Features at Launch:

    • Bitesize Grand Strategy: Matches are designed to be completed in about 60–120 minutes.
    • Procedural Replayability: Every run features randomised maps, anomalies, and procedurally generated tech trees. You can’t rely on a “meta” build order here; you have to react to the technologies available to you.
    • Tactical Hex Combat: Battles take place on a one-unit-per-tile grid. Positioning, flanking, and managing your fleet’s specific ship classes (from agile Scouts to massive Battleships) are the keys to victory.
    • Intricate Production Chains: Every tile matters. You’ll build space stations to harvest resources from asteroids and gas giants, connecting them via orbital networks to fuel your empire.
    • Smart AI: Developed in collaboration with renowned strategy modder Xilmi, the AI doesn’t just sit back—it plays to win, forcing you to earn every victory point.

    A Galaxy of Content

The full release is packed with content to keep you coming back for “just one more turn”:

    • 6 Playable Factions with distinct mechanics.
    • 24 Ship Types to master and upgrade.
    • 100+ Anomalies to discover, each offering unique rewards or “forbidden” tech.
    • 9 Different Victory Conditions, ensuring that combat isn’t the only path to dominance.

    Available Now

Astro Protocol is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. To celebrate the launch, Null Vector Studios is offering a limited-time discount on Steam.

“We wanted to create a strategy game that respects your time but still offers those ‘high-stakes’ decisions that make 4X games so addictive,” says the development team at Null Vector.

  • Trapped in the Loop: A Look at Nightmare: The Lunatic

Trapped in the Loop: A Look at Nightmare: The Lunatic

If you’ve ever had a dream where you’re running but your legs feel like lead, Nightmare: The Lunatic might feel a little too familiar. Developed by the Korean indie studio Maetdol Games, this 2D action roguelite has quietly built a “Very Positive” reputation on Steam for its slick combat and punishing, yet rewarding, gameplay loops.

With a recent expansion to the Nintendo Switch and physical editions for PlayStation 5 slated for Summer 2026, it’s a perfect time to dive into why this indie title is standing out in a crowded genre.

The Story: A Dream You Can’t Wake From

The premise is classic roguelite: You awaken with no memory, trapped in an endless, shifting nightmare. Every death sends you back to the beginning, but you aren’t alone. You are guided by the Dream Merchant, a helpful—if slightly suspicious—merchant who has also been swallowed by the dream. Together, you must descend through surreal biomes like distorted forests and deserts to find the source of the nightmare and break the cycle.

    Key Gameplay Mechanics

While many compare it to hits like Dead Cells or Skul: The Hero Slayer, Nightmare: The Lunatic carves out its own identity with a few standout mechanics:

    • The Three-Weapon System: Unlike most games that limit you to one or two weapons, you carry three at all times. You can swap between them instantly with the flick of a stick. This isn’t just for variety; swapping triggers unique “Switch Skills”—one weapon might deal a burst of damage when brought in, while another might hover as an automated assistant.
    • Accessible Parrying: For those of us who usually struggle with “frame-perfect” timing, this game is a breath of fresh air. Enemies provide clear visual telegraphs (a bright exclamation mark) for parry windows, making high-level defensive play feel achievable for everyone.
    • Totems & Meta-Progression: As you explore, you collect “Totems” that provide passive buffs and build-defining synergies. Between runs, you use collected currency to buy permanent upgrades and “contracts” to strengthen your base stats.

    Why It’s Worth Playing

    FeatureWhy It Works
PacingRooms are short and rewards are frequent, keeping the “just one more run” feeling alive.
VisualsHigh-quality pixel art with smooth animations that make the “dream-logic” environments feel alive.
Boss DesignBosses are massive, screen-filling threats that require you to master the weapon-swapping and parry mechanics.

    The Verdict

Nightmare: The Lunatic doesn’t reinvent the roguelite wheel, but it polishes it to a high shine. It’s an “easy to learn, hard to master” experience that rewards experimentation. While some players find the difficulty gap between regular rooms and bosses a bit steep, the satisfying “clink” of a successful parry and the flow of the triple-weapon combat make it a journey worth taking.

  • Neon Nights and Ancient Myths: Why ‘Street Gods’ is the Indie Gem You Need to Play

Neon Nights and Ancient Myths: Why ‘Street Gods’ is the Indie Gem You Need to Play

It looks like a fighting game, reads like a graphic novel, and plays like a stylistic fever dream. Here’s why you shouldn’t sleep on Street Gods.

Step into a world where the concrete jungle is literally alive with ancient power.

The indie game scene is crowded these days. It takes a lot to stand out amongst the endless sea of pixel-art roguelikes and cosy farm sims. But every once in a while, a game kickflips out of nowhere with so much inherent style and kinetic energy that you can’t ignore it.

    Street Gods is that game.

If you’ve seen screenshots of it, you might be confused. Is it a fighting game? A dating sim? A cyberpunk adventure?

The answer is yes—and no. It’s a genre-bending narrative experience that oozes cool from every digital pore. I recently dove into its neon-drenched streets, and I’m here to tell you why it deserves a spot in your library.

    What Exactly IS Street Gods?

At its core, Street Gods is a narrative RPG with heavy visual novel elements, developed by Deep Blue Games.

It’s set in a hyper-stylised, near-future version of reality where ancient mythological powers are resurfacing in modern urban youths. You play as a protagonist caught up in this clandestine war for territory, respect, and ultimate power.

But here’s the twist: It looks like a high-octane anime fighter—think Guilty Gear or Jet Set Radio—but you don’t actually “fight” in real-time. Instead, the battles are waged through choices, stat checks, and a unique “spin-to-win” mechanic that dictates the flow of combat scenes.

It is a game about managing your time, building your stats, navigating complex relationships, and deciding what kind of “god” you want to become.

    The Vibe: Dripping with Style

The first thing that hits you about Street Gods is the aesthetic. This game doesn’t just have an art style; it has an entire vibe.

The visuals are a striking blend of comic book panels, graffiti art, and vibrant, saturated colours. Every character design is distinct and memorable, looking like they just walked off a futuristic runway designed by punks. The UI is snappy and energetic; just navigating the menus feels cool.

Backing up the visuals is an incredible soundtrack. It’s a pumping mix of hip-hop, electronic, and lofi beats that perfectly captures the rhythm of the city streets. The audiovisual experience alone is worth the price of admission. It’s one of those games you play with the headphones turned up.

    Gameplay: The Weight of Choice

While the style draws you in, the narrative loop keeps you there. Street Gods operates on a “ticking clock” mechanic.

You have a limited number of days, and each day has limited time slots. Do you spend your afternoon training your agility to dodge attacks? Do you hang out with a specific faction leader to gain their favour and unlock lore? Do you work a part-time job to buy better gear?

Every choice matters because you cannot do everything in a single playthrough.

When conflict arises—and it always does—the game shifts into “combat mode.” This isn’t about button masking; it’s about narrative stakes. The game uses a spinning wheel mechanic (the “Vibe Check”) combined with your accumulated stats to determine the outcome of clashes.

It’s tense, not because you might miss a combo, but because the story branches wildly based on whether you win or lose.

    Why You Should Play It

If you are looking for a traditional action game, this might not be for you. But if you love games like Persona for the time management, Disco Elysium for the deep stat-based roleplaying, or visual novels for branching narratives, Street Gods is a must-play blend of those elements.

Here is the breakdown of why it works:

    • Replayability is High: Because you have limited time and there are multiple factions and endings, you need to play it several times to see the whole picture.
    • The Writing is Snappy: The dialogue is sharp, modern, and genuinely funny without trying too hard. The characters feel distinct, each dealing with the burden of newfound power in their own way.
    • It Respects Your Time: A single playthrough isn’t exhaustively long, making it perfect for a weekend binge, encouraging you to dive right back in for a “New Game+”.

    Final Verdict

Street Gods is a vibe check that you want to pass. It’s a bold, confident indie title that knows exactly what it wants to be: a stylish, narrative rollercoaster about gods, graffiti, and growing up.

It’s a love letter to urban culture and mythology, wrapped in a package that is visually unforgettable. Grab your headphones, pick your path, and get ready to rule the streets.

    Score: 4.5/5 Neon Halos

  • A Universe of Puzzles: Everything You Need to Know About Order of the Sinking Star

A Universe of Puzzles: Everything You Need to Know About Order of the Sinking Star

Get ready to stretch your mental muscles, puzzle fans! The long-awaited next game from legendary designer Jonathan Blow (creator of Braid and The Witness), Order of the Sinking Star, has been officially unveiled, and it promises to be a truly massive, mind-bending experience.

If you thought The Witness was a challenge, think again. This ambitious new title is setting a new standard for the narrative puzzle adventure genre.

🧩 The Premise: Four Worlds Collide

Order of the Sinking Star is a top-down, narrative adventure that begins with Queen Effia, a deposed ruler who is suddenly transported to a magical, enigmatic new realm. What follows is an exploration of a sprawling, non-linear game world built around an unprecedented number of intricate, hand-crafted puzzles.

    • Four Distinct Realms: The game is structured around four initial worlds, each based on a different core puzzle mechanic (often likened to a sophisticated form of Sokoban or block-pushing puzzles):
      • The North: Features a party of heroes (a warrior, thief, and wizard) with complementary abilities for manipulating objects.
      • The East: Focuses on puzzles involving mirrors, reflections, and teleportation/duplication mechanics.
      • The South: Involves skipping stones across water to create new paths.
      • The West: Puts you in command of a mechanical suit with crystal-light-based powers.
    • The Supercollider Effect: The true genius and difficulty of the game emerge when these four worlds begin to collide! As you progress into the overworld’s diagonal areas, the mechanics and characters from different realms merge, creating puzzles that require an understanding of two, three, or even all four systems simultaneously.

🦸 Unlikely Heroes and a Grand Mystery

You won’t be solving this mystery alone. The game features multiple unique playable characters, each with their own captivating story and abilities, including Queen Effia, a thief, a warrior, a wizard, and even, hilariously, a talking boat.

    • Character-Specific Solutions: Each hero brings a different perspective and set of tools. For example, the thief can pull blocks, breaking the classic Sokoban rule, while the wizard can swap places with objects. Learning to utilise and switch between these abilities is key, particularly in the later-game cross-over puzzles.
    • Deciphering the Lore: The story unfolds gradually. Rather than relying on heavy exposition, the narrative is told through environmental storytelling, notes you collect, and small interactions between the characters as they meet and journey together. The ultimate goal is to piece together the secrets of this enigmatic realm and the true nature of the “Order of the Sinking Star.”

🤯 A Scope Unlike Any Other

The sheer scale of this project is what truly sets it apart.

    FeatureDetail
Number of PuzzlesOver 1,000 hand-crafted, interconnected puzzles.
Estimated Playtime250+ hours for a normal run, and potentially 500+ hours for completionists.
ComplexityThe first phase (the four separate worlds) is reportedly only about 5% of the total gameplay.
Quality-of-LifeIncludes a generous, unlimited undo feature, allowing you to rewind all your moves for effortless experimentation.

Order of the Sinking Star is more than just a massive puzzle game; it’s a “game design supercollider,” pushing the boundaries of mechanical interaction and systemic complexity. It’s an adventure that rewards curiosity, persistence, and the pure joy of having that “Aha!” moment.

This looks like a game that will dominate the conversation among puzzle enthusiasts for years to come.

    • New Location: Unlock a new Homestead instance on the tropical coast of Comosus Isle.
    • Layouts Feature: The new Layouts feature allows players to save, load, share, and edit their decoration arrangements, making it easier than ever to switch between their Janthiri and Castoran paradises.

Visions of Eternity promises to be a return to some fan-favourite features, a continuation of Tyria’s overarching narrative, and an exciting push into uncharted territory. Play The Last Faith

Here is a game that brings back the classic arcade-style gaming right to your gaming console of choice. This is a game where you must fight monsters, discover the meanings behind the myths and battle with bosses with move on from each level until you get to the final battle where the excitement can be so overwhelming.

The Last Faith will put you right in the middle of a war between good and evil, its pixel art design shows a great piece of gameplay that might look old style, but the action and effects are crisp and clear, so while it might look old school, this is a game for today.
