The cost of Christmas Dinner set to rise

It has been well publicised that there is a shortage of seasonal workers who would normally be picking fruit and vegetables, coupled with the lack of HGV drivers this could be creating a perfect storm at Christmas. Farming has always relied on seasonal workers, but this year has been different and because of the pandemic travel has been restricted meaning that these workers are unable to return to the UK, hence we can expect to pay around 5% more for a festive food this year.

According to Ian Wright, chief executive of the Food and Drink Federation;

There is a war for workers, the only way to get more HGV and logistics drivers is to put up pay.

If you are looking for further details on this? Then you are in luck because more information can be found on the Food and Drink Federation website right here!
