Into the North: WILL: Follow the Light Demos Its Way Across Steam Next Fest

If you’ve been craving a narrative experience that feels like a cold, crisp morning in the Nordic wilderness, your wait is officially over—or at least, a significant piece of it is. TomorrowHead Studio has officially announced that their atmospheric adventure, WILL: Follow the Light, is making its way to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The best part? You don’t have to wait for the full release to get your hands on the wheel. As part of Steam Next Fest (running now through March 2, 2026), a playable demo is live on Steam, giving players a first look at what it’s like to navigate the unforgiving northern seas.

A Tale of Fathers, Sons, and the Open Sea

WILL: Follow the Light isn’t your typical “walking sim.” It’s a first-person journey that places you in the boots of Will, a lighthouse keeper whose solitary life is upended by a mysterious radio message. A disaster has struck his hometown, and his son is missing.

What follows is a cinematic trek through the harsh northern latitudes. To find his family, Will must master several distinct modes of traversal:

Realistic Sailing: This isn’t just “press W to move.” You’ll navigate the yacht Molly using authentic navigation tools and weather stations.

Dog Sledging: Cross snow-covered mountain ranges by leading a team of sledge dogs.

On-Foot Exploration: Explore abandoned islands and ruined settlements where the environmental storytelling takes centre stage.

Unreal Engine 5 Meets Indie Ambition

Visually, the game is a standout. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the Spokane-based TomorrowHead Studio has leveraged its background in CGI to create a world that looks hauntingly real. Whether you’re watching the way the wind catches the sails of your yacht or the way the light hits a frozen peak, the immersion is front and centre.

The developers have cited influences like Firewatch and Alan Wake, which are evident in the game’s blend of grounded reality and atmospheric tension.

“We wanted to create a diverse adventure where gameplay never settles into a single pattern. One moment you’re navigating wind and inertia on the water, the next you’re solving puzzles rooted in real-world logic.” — Roman Novikov, Founder of TomorrowHead Studio.

How to Play Right Now

The demo available during Steam Next Fest offers a vertical slice of the experience. You’ll get a taste of the yacht mechanics, some introductory puzzles, and a first meeting with key characters from Will’s life.

Release Date: Targeted for later in 2026.

Platforms: PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Next Fest Window: Play the demo before it sails away on March 2, 2026.

If you enjoy narrative-heavy experiences with high production value, this is one to add to your wishlist immediately.
