Levelling Up: IGDA Welcomes Three Powerhouse Directors to Its Global Board

The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) has officially shaken up its leadership, appointing three heavy-hitting industry veterans to its Board of Directors: Natasha Skult, Christopher Hamilton, and Mark Stanley.

As the gaming industry navigates a rapidly shifting landscape—balancing massive technological leaps with a pressing need for better developer support—these appointments mark a strategic move toward global expansion, community safety, and sustainable industry growth.

Here is a look at the powerhouse trio stepping up to guide the world’s largest nonprofit membership organisation for game developers.

Meet the New Board Members

Dr. Natasha Skult

No stranger to the IGDA ecosystem, Dr. Skult is the CEO and Creative Director of MiTale, a Finland-based indie studio specialising in interactive storytelling. With more than 15 years spanning both academic research and active game development, she brings a unique, future-forward perspective to the board.

  • The X-Factor: She is actively researching interactive storytelling integrated with quantum computing and teaches game design internationally from Finland to Ghana. Expect her to champion cross-border talent programs and cutting-edge tech integration.

Christopher Hamilton

Based in Helsinki, Hamilton is a veteran specialist in business development, production, and publisher relations. Having worked with powerhouse names like Rovio, Genvid Technologies, and GameHouse, his expertise spans PC, mobile, and emerging interactive platforms.

  • The X-Factor: Hamilton serves as a fractional Partner Relations Manager at Aiba, focusing on building safer gaming communities through LLM-powered (AI) moderation tools. His appointment signals a heavy focus on developer relations, indie studio advocacy, and community health. He has also been named the board’s Treasurer-Elect.

Mark Stanley

Bringing a massive 25 years of executive experience across 40+ countries, Stanley has held leadership roles at some of the biggest giants in the business, including Xbox, PlayStation, SEGA, and GameStop. He is the founder of Syndicate of Play and a seasoned global strategic advisor.

  • The X-Factor: Beyond commercial growth, Stanley is deeply committed to the cultural and environmental impact of gaming. He holds advisory and board roles with Games for Change and Playing for the Planet, bringing a vital focus on sustainability and social good to the IGDA’s long-term vision.

A New Executive Era for 2026–2027

Alongside these new appointments, the IGDA finalised its executive officer lineup for the upcoming term. Limpho Moeti will continue her strong leadership, serving a second term as Board Chair. Joining her in executive leadership are:

  • Vice Chair: Mafalda Duarte
  • Secretary: Jennifer Estaris
  • Treasurer: Tim Cullings
  • Treasurer-Elect: Christopher Hamilton

IGDA Executive Director Dr. Jakin Vela expressed high optimism for the new cohort, noting that Skult and Hamilton bring invaluable institutional knowledge, while Stanley’s macro-level industry perspective will inject “fresh energy” into the IGDA’s global strategy.

The organisation also extended its gratitude to outgoing board members Zak Whaley, Nazih Fares, and Valentina Birke for their years of dedicated service and mentorship.

Why This Matters for Developers

The gaming industry is currently at an inflexion point. Developers worldwide are facing a volatile market, studio restructurings, and the rapid rise of AI tools.

By bringing in a mix of academic brilliance, indie community building, safer moderation expertise, and AAA global strategy, the IGDA is positioning itself to be a more robust advocate for developers at every level—from solo indies to major studio veterans.
