There is no doubt that for retailers the pandemic has been a bit of a mixed bag, while for essential stores it has been fairly busy, for others the lockdown simply meant that they were unable to open. Yet figures from the British Retail Consortium show that the period covering April to June sales hit an all-time high, up over 28% on the previous year.
According to the BRC chief executive, Helen Dickinson she said:
The second quarter of 2021 saw exceptional growth as the gradual unlocking of the UK economy encouraged a release of pent-up demand built up over previous lockdowns.
