Summer Game Fest is officially underway, and the temperature isn’t the only thing soaring. Before the main event even opened its doors at the Dolby Theatre, two massive satellite events—the Latin American Games Showcase (LAGS) and the Women-Led Games Showcase—turned up the heat, proving that some of the most scorching creativity in the industry comes from indie boundaries and diverse perspectives.
From massive world premieres to long-awaited release dates, these showcases pulled out all the stops. If you missed the live streams, don’t panic. We’ve got the ultimate breakdown of the biggest announcements that shook up the community.
Latin American Games Showcase: A Masterclass in Innovation
Representing 80 games from across 12 countries, LAGS delivered its largest and most ambitious showcase to date. Backed by heavy hitters like Raw Fury and Annapurna Interactive, the broadcast highlighted the incredible depth of Latin American game design.
Here are the standouts that immediately went onto our wishlists:
- Ornament Tower (World Premiere): This charming action-puzzle adventure tells the story of Azulin and Guaraná, two characters transformed by a curse. Players must solve intricate puzzles and defeat enemies to scale the tower and reclaim their bodies.
- Kernel Hearts (Release Window): Mark your calendars for September 2026! This highly anticipated co-op action-RPG roguelike features four magical girls battling to save a world drowning in ashes.
- SHADE Protocol: Fans of the genre, rejoice. The developers announced a Kickstarter launch for this stunning 2D cyber-fantasy Metroidvania where music, coding, and tight combat collide.
Women-Led Games Showcase: Powerful Stories & Big Reveals
Hosted by Briana White (the beloved voice of Aerith in Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth), alongside industry icons Rebecca Ford and Megan Everett from Digital Extremes, this showcase put a well-deserved spotlight on studios shaped by women. Boasting five world premieres and major updates on titles like Soulframe, it was a non-stop thrill.
The highlights you need to know:
- lily’s world XD: A nostalgia trip with a dark twist. Set in 2004, you uncover an ordinary teenager’s old laptop. By reading her diary and messaging her friends, you have to piece together what happened to her. A playable demo is live on Steam right now!
- Barbie Horse Ride & Rescue: A major drop for cosy gamers. Launching June 16, 2026, on iOS and Android, this title lets you rescue horses and solve mysteries in Moonrise Valley. (Bonus: It hits Steam and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027!)
- We, Junk Artists: A brilliant, chaotic multiplayer “collage-and-guess” party game where up to six players use scrap materials—like tyres and broken appliances—to communicate ideas. It officially hits Steam in August 2026.
Don’t Miss Out on the Action!
Summer is just getting started, but these two showcases have already set an incredibly high bar for the rest of Summer Game Fest.
Want to play? You can watch the full VODs on their respective YouTube and Twitch channels right now. Even better, head over to Steam, where both the Women-Led Games and Latin American Games Showcase have dedicated sale pages featuring playable demos and discounts on showcased titles.
