The UK Government is backing the building of the Sizewell C nuclear power plant in Suffolk by signing an agreement with the French-based energy firm EDF by investing £700m into the project and becoming a 50% shareholder. It is expected that once completed both Sizewell B and C will produce around 7% of the UK’s electricity needs.
